Dr David Holt is a CASA Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME-W237). He has a Medical Degree with Honours from Flinders University, South Australia and a Bachelor of Engineering (Aeronautical) with Honours from the University of Sydney. He served 25 years in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), initially as a pilot then as a Doctor and has done additional training in Aviation Medicine at the RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine. Dr Holt has an in-depth understanding of the needs of those working in the Aviation industry. Dr Holt has also done additional training in Underwater/Dive Medicine and is also able to assist with all medical issues regarding return to work/flying for all Class 1, 2 and 3 licence holders.
As a DAME Dr Holt is certified to perform:
- CASA Aviation Medicals for all Class 1, 2 and 3 licence holders.
- Both initial and renewal aviation medicals.
- For Commercial and Private Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers.
Aviation Medicals at Ellen Health involve a review of the examinee’s medical history and a physical examination. This begins with a brief appointment with one of our Practice Nurses followed by an appointment with Dr Holt.
Additional tests may be required depending the examinee’s age and CASA requirements. These tests may include; Blood Tests (eg. lipids and blood sugar), ECG and Audiometry (hearing test).
We have the facilities to perform these in-house at Ellen Health. Any other required tests can also be organised by referral to external providers, such as CASA designated Ophthalmologist or Optometrist. Blood Tests can be organised prior to the appointment so the results will be available at the time of the examination.

When booking an Aviation Medical with Dr Holt, we ask that you give the following information:
- Whether it is an initial or renewal medical.
- The class (1, 2 or 3).
- Examinee’s Aviation Reference Number, full name, date of birth, address & contact number
Bookings for Aviation Medicals are available: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 2pm-5pm and maybe arranged at other times by request.
