Pregnancy

Antenatal and shared care

Ellen Health is proud to offer pregnancy and postnatal services based on the principles of “continuity of care”. It is well recognised that continuity of the same care-provider is highly valued by families, especially through pregnancy.

Through continuity of GP care you build a trusting relationship to prepare for your birth and parenthood.

Ellen Health has a dedicated, experienced team of GP’s who have completed additional training in obstetrics. We are excited to be involved in this very special time in your life.

Ellen Health offers comprehensive general practice services for all of your family’s medical needs. Our relationship with you grows as your family grows. The length of our standard practice appointments enables us to focus on high quality comprehensive care. We are pleased to be a family oriented practice, caring for your complete family, from grandparents to babies.

Doctors offering maternity care at Ellen Health

Whilst all our general practitioners offer shared care, we have four doctors with additional Diploma of Obstetrics training and special interest in caring for pregnant women. Our GP obstetricians have all worked in procedural obstetrics in the past, and currently offer shared antenatal care at Ellen Health.

Where to Birth?

Most of our local patients give birth to their babies at King Edward Hospital (public), Fiona Stanley Hospital (public), Attadale and St John of God Murdoch Private Hospitals. We have collaborative arrangements with our local hospitals and specialist obstetricians. Your Ellen Health doctor will work with the hospital team, to create an individualised plan for you. Frequently our ladies are seen for many of their antenatal checks at Ellen Health (around 6-8 visits throughout the pregnancy), along with a ‘booking in’ visit to their choice of hospital around 20 weeks gestation, and then attending the hospital again from 36 weeks until the birth of their baby.

If you have private health insurance, you may choose to see a private obstetrician for care throughout your pregnancy, and arrange delivery at a private maternity hospital.  We are supportive of whatever choice you make. You have the option to share care with a GP at Ellen Health if you would like to, or we look forward to seeing you and new baby after discharge from hospital.
