We offer comprehensive services for babies, children, and adolescents.
We recognise the stress of having a sick child, so whenever we are open for business we offer an immediate nurse assessment service for sick children, enabling appropriate triage and doctor’s review.
Healthy Child Checks:
Routine health assessments are provided, assessing normal growth and development.
4 year old healthy child checks are recommended.
Chronic disease care plans are offered for conditions such as asthma, allergies and autism.
Immunisations can be booked with our nurses between 8:30am and 5:00pm
Our nurses have considerable experience with the WA infant vaccination schedule and liaise with the Rheola Street immunisation clinic when there are complicating factors such as immunisations commenced overseas or previous vaccination reactions or delayed commencement.
A doctor’s appointment is not necessary as the nurse will call the doctor on duty to check and approve the immunisation.
Appointments for routine childhood immunisations are bulk billed. Fees may apply for complex appointments and to cover the cost of travel vaccines.
Routine immunisations are registered with the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register.

Ellen Health is proud to offer pregnancy and postnatal services based on the principles of “continuity of care”. It is well recognised that continuity of the same care-provider is highly valued by families, especially through pregnancy.
Through continuity of GP care you build a trusting relationship to prepare for your birth and parenthood.
Ellen Health has a dedicated, experienced team of GP’s who have completed additional training in Obstetrics. We are excited to be involved in this very special time in your life.
Ellen Health offers comprehensive general practice services for all of your family’s medical needs. Our relationship with you grows as your family grows. The length of our standard practice appointments enables us to focus on high quality comprehensive care. We are pleased to be a family oriented practice, caring for your complete family, grandparents to babies.
Doctors offering maternity care at Ellen Health
Whilst all our general practitioners offer shared care, we have four doctors with additional Diploma of Obstetrics training and special interest in caring for pregnant women. Our GP obstetricians have all worked in procedural obstetrics in the past, and currently offer shared antenatal care at Ellen Health.
Our GP Obstetricians:
Dr Keren Witcombe
Dr Catherine Douglass
Dr Linda Muntz
Dr Suzie Robinson
Where to Birth?
Most of our local patients give birth to their babies at King Edward Hospital (public), Fiona Stanley Hospital (public), Attadale and St John of God Murdoch Private Hospitals. We have collaborative arrangements with our local hospitals and specialist obstetricians. Your Ellen Health doctor will work with the hospital team, to create an individualised plan for you. Frequently our ladies are seen for many of their antenatal checks at Ellen Health (around 6-8 visits throughout the pregnancy), along with a ‘booking in’ visit to their choice of hospital around 20 weeks gestation, and then attending the hospital again from 36 weeks until the birth of their baby.
If you have private health insurance, you may choose to see a private obstetrician for care throughout your pregnancy, and arrange delivery at a private maternity hospital. We are supportive of whatever choice you make. You have the option to share care with a GP at Ellen Health if you would like to, or we look forward to seeing you and new baby after discharge from hospital.
Ellen Health provides family planning advice and gynaecological assessments including screening and treatment of sexual transmitted diseases.
We offer the convenience of insertion and removal of Implanon and Mirena contraceptive implants on site.
Several of our doctors have particular experience and expertise in the management of menopausal symptoms.
The time of menopause commonly coincides with other life challenges – children leaving the nest, elderly parents and physical ailments, along with the psychological challenges of mid life. Our doctors and nurse practitioner can help advise on how to stay well and remain positive through this time. The importance of nutrition, and the pros and cons of HRT can be discussed in detail.
Men are often shy about asking for help with their health. We understand the importance of keeping fit, reducing lifestyle risk factors, and helping men achieve their peak fitness, whilst balancing work commitments.
Screening for prostate cancer is a controversial area which our doctors can discuss with you, and consider your individual risk factors.
Our doctors can assist with diagnosis and management of sexual concerns.

Why is iron important?
Iron is essential for the body to make haemoglobin (Hb), a pigment that makes red blood cells red and carries oxygen from the lungs to the body organs and working muscles.
When the amount of iron in the body gets too low, the haemoglobin level can fall below normal. This is known as ‘iron deficiency anaemia’.
If your haemoglobin or iron levels are low this may make you feel fatigued and less able to carry out your normal activities.
Why might I need IV iron? (*Ferinject)
The most common way to treat iron deficiency and the resulting anaemia is to take iron by mouth as a tablet or liquid. This approach works well for most people and is usually first line treatment.
An iron infusion might be needed if you are:
- Unable to tolerate oral iron preparations,
- Unable to absorb iron through the gut
- Unable to absorb enough iron to compensate for the amount of blood that the body is losing,
- In need of a rapid increase in iron levels to avoid complications or a blood transfusion (eg. before major surgery)
Iron Infusions at Ellen Health
All of our patients who require an iron infusion are reviewed by one of our doctors; the risks and benefits of "Ferinject" are discussed and a Consent Form is signed.
Our Nurses are trained to set up the iron infusion, insert the cannula into your arm vein and supervise the procedure. Your doctor will arrange a follow up blood test 4-6 weeks after the infusion.
