Children
Children
We offer comprehensive services for babies, children, and adolescents.
We recognise the stress of having a sick child, so whenever we are open for business we offer immediate nurse assessments service for sick children, enabling appropriate triage and doctor’s review.
Healthy Child Checks:
Routine health assessments are provided, assessing normal growth and development.
4 year old healthy child checks are recommended.
Chronic disease care plans are offered for conditions such as asthma, allergies and autism.
Immunisations:
Immunisations can be booked with our nurses between 8:30am and 5:00pm
Our nurses have considerable experience with the WA infant vaccination schedule and liaise with the Rheola Street immunisation clinic when there are complicating factors such as immunisations commenced overseas or previous vaccination reactions or delayed commencement.
A doctor’s appointment is not necessary as the nurse will call the doctor on duty to check and approve the immunisation.
Appointments for routine childhood immunisations are bulk billed. Fees may apply for complex appointments and to cover the cost of travel vaccines.
Routine immunisations are registered with the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register.

Ellen Health, in collaboration with Your Midwife WA, is proud to offer midwifery (pregnancy and postnatal) services based on the principles of “continuity of care”. It is well recognised that continuity of the same care-provider is highly valued by families, especially through pregnancy.
Through continuity of midwife and GP care providers you build a trusting relationship to prepare for your birth and parenthood.
Ellen Health has a dedicated, experienced team of GP’s who have completed additional training in Obstetrics. Our GPs work in collaboration with our midwife colleague, Sylvia Jenkin, to provide the special attention that you need at this time. It excites us to be involved in this very special time in your life.
Ellen Health offers comprehensive general practice services for all of your family’s medical needs. Our relationship with you grows as your family grows. The length of our standard practice appointments enables us to focus on high quality comprehensive care. We are pleased to be a family oriented practice, caring for your complete family, grandparents to babies.
Doctors offering maternity care at Ellen Health
Whilst all our general practitioners offer shared care, we have five doctors with additional Diploma of Obstetrics training and special interest in caring for pregnant women. Our GP obstetricians have all worked in procedural obstetrics in the past, and currently offer shared antenatal care at Ellen Health.
Our GP Obstetricians:
Dr Keren Witcombe
Dr Catherine Douglass
Dr Linda Muntz
Dr Cathy Brooker
Dr Pamela Thompson
Our Eligible Midwife in Private Practice:
Sylvia Jenkin is an experienced midwife, having practised in Germany, New Zealand and Australia since 1999. Sylvia has obtained notation as eligible midwife in June 2011 (the 3rd eligible midwife in WA), and has achieved a Medicare Provider Number. Sylvia offers high quality midwifery services based on the principles of continuity of care by a known midwife. Continuity of midwifery care means a midwife of the mother’s choice supports and cares for the mother and her family from the beginning of the pregnancy through the birth and until the baby is 6 weeks old.
Sylvia Jenkin offers antenatal care, antenatal classes, births, and postnatal care, working collaboratively with your GP from the beginning of your pregnancy until your baby is 6 weeks old.
If you are planning a family, extending your family or you are currently pregnant, please call Ellen Health to arrange a consultation with your choice of GP or our midwife, Sylvia Jenkin for an initial assessment. If you have risk factors, you may be referred to a specialist obstetrician.
Where to Birth?
Most of our local patients give birth to their babies at Kaleeya Hospital (public), Attadale and St John of God Murdoch Private Hospitals. We have collaborative arrangements with our local hospitals and specialist obstetricians. Your Ellen Health doctor and midwife will work with the hospital team, to create an individualised plan for you. Frequently our ladies are seen for many of their antenatal checks at Ellen Health (around 6-8 visits throughout the pregnancy), along with a ‘booking in’ visit to their choice of hospital around 20 weeks gestation, and then attending the hospital again from 36 weeks until the birth of their baby.
Our Ellen Health midwife, Sylvia Jenkin, works closely with the doctors at Ellen Health, particularly to assist with any medical concerns. In addition, Sylvia now offers full birthing service in Armadale hospital, in conjunction with consultant Obstetrician, Dr Nafeesa Moola. She is applying for birthing rights at Kaleeya and other local hospitals.
If you have private health insurance, you may choose to see a private obstetrician for care throughout your pregnancy, and arrange delivery at a private maternity hospital. We are supportive of whatever choice you make. You have the option to share care with a GP and/or midwife at Ellen Health if you would like to, or we look forward to seeing you and new baby after discharge from hospital.
An excellent feature of the new Medicare schedule for eligible midwives includes a Medicare rebate for a comprehensive birth plan after 20 weeks gestational age, which enables a full 90 minutes with your midwife, so you are well prepared for your birth. We recommend all pregnant patients avail themselves of this excellent new service initiative, which will be bulk billed.
